The largest nature park on Curaçao is best known for the Christoffel mountain that you can climb. Then you have to get up early   because after 10:00 the mountain is no longer accessible, it is best to be present around 7:30 so that it is not yet too hot and nature is at its best. Do put on good shoes.

For the less sporty holidaymaker, the park is also very worthwhile. You can simply drive two routes with your own car. one around the mountain and one more along the coast. There are parking spots along the way from which you can take short walks.

It is also advisable to leave on time because it will keep you busy throughout the day.

Hato got .

The Hato Cave is more than 300,000 years old. It is considered the largest and most public-friendly cave on the island. Curaçao is formed in rising layers, which are called 'terraces'. While most of the caves are on the second terrace, Hato Cave is on the third terrace, so you have to walk up 49 steps to reach the entrance. Special reward at the top ➡ beautiful panoramic view & a nice cool breeze.
Before the Spaniards, the caves were used by the Arawakindians. Some remains of these inhabitants can still be seen, including cave paintings Some rock paintings are about 1500 years old. After that, the caves were used by runaway slaves who hid there from the slave traders. As a result, some slaves were in these caves for a very long time.

Now the caves are only used by the bats. Bats are very important for the flora and fauna of Curacao. The nectar eating bats pollinate the cacti and the cacti are very important for all other animals on the island especially during the dry season.

Furthermore, beautiful stalagmites and stalactites can be seen in the Hato caves.

W A T A M U L A

Watamula  is located at the extreme northern tip of Curaçao. According to the locals, this is the place where the island "breathes". This is because the rocks and remnants of the coral are porous and the air is blown out of the rock by the waves. The road to the blowhole is bumpy, but the reward is great. Watamula is a large hole formed over decades by the rough seas on the coast. When the waves come, the water shoots up like a fountain.

Snorkelen is geweldig daar!

Piskado where this beach is located is a fishing port. Because the fish are immediately cleaned from the boat and the waste is thrown into the sea. There are always a lot of sea turtles present. In principle, turtles are herbivores, but they are also not averse to carrion.

Snorkeling is great there! Always several turtles to see especially around the jetty. In addition, the boats that are there provide a good hiding place for large schools of small fish. It's also beautiful to watch these swim around as they move as one organism.

If you don't want to snorkel, a visit is also worth it because if you stand on the jetty you can also see the turtles come up to breathe.

Hofi Pastor Curacao

H O F I   P A S T O R

Openingstijden:

Dagelijks geopend van 09.00 tot 16.00 uur donderdag gesloten

Hofi pastor is a very special nature park on Curaçao. The atmosphere is wonderfully cozy, it's like stepping back in time.

At the beginning of the park is a small house, where you have to ring a bell. Then a park ranger arrives, to whom you have to pay a few Antillean guilders as an entrance fee. This one also has a map of the park and explains how to walk. There are two routes but you can easily walk both.
Both routes start at the oldest tree of Curaçao. That is a fantastic kapok tree that is at least 400 years old. It is not very high, but it is wide and its long, winding plank roots have a radius of at least ten meters around the tree.
The original, neat orchard has turned into a fairytale forest. There is even a chance that a footpath is difficult to access due to overhanging lianas or fallen trees. Butterflies alight on beautiful flowers, iguanas peer out from lush vegetation. Harmless and colorful snakes, wild donkeys and little hawks, all native to Curaçao, call Hòfi Pastor home. From dawn to dusk, this fragrant orchard is buzzing with life.

Opening hours:

Open daily from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Closed on Thursdays
